Spicy Cajun Coleslaw

Coleslaw is one of my favorite crunchy, creamy side dishes in the warmer months and Cajun seasoning is my favorite spice combo, so to me, this recipe for Spicy Cajun Coleslaw is a match made in heaven.

This coleslaw is full of the crisp, crunchy shredded vegetables and creamy dressing that you expect in coleslaw, but also has the added spice of Cajun Seasoning, which really makes it stand out.

Coleslaw pairs nicely with pork or chicken and is great on a hot dog, pulled pork or grilled chicken sandwich. It also goes great with fried chicken, as we all probably know. Coleslaw is the quintessential summertime side dish that deserves a spot on your plate at any BBQ.

Ingredients for Spicy Cajun Coleslaw:

  • coleslaw mix
  • carrots
  • mayonnaise
  • Creole mustard (or Dijon mustard)
  • apple cider vinegar
  • hot sauce
  • Cajun seasoning
  • garlic powder
  • smoked paprika
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • green onions

How to Make Spicy Cajun Coleslaw:

In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, carrots, and green onions.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Creole or dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until well coated.

Let the slaw chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded coleslaw mix
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Creole mustard or Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce optional
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions sliced

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, carrots, and green onions.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Creole or dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until well coated.
