In Sacramento CA they have .99Cent stores. There are tables in the back if their stores that have seasonal fruit and vegetables..I like your menu ,I cook similar meals .Hamburger in bulk,I separate in small packages .Chili.hamburgers,tacos,meatloaf ect .all economical..Beans are great and high in protein.

Potato soup is a frugal meal that I make every 2 weeks. It is delicious, uses up fridge leftovers and is easy to make:. Cut up about 1/3 pkg. Bacon (any kind). Fry, add some chopped onions and a bit of minced garlic. Fry until onions are soft and bacon is cooked (but doesn't have to be crispy.). Add 4 cups water or broth, (I usually just use Knorr chicken cubes), 1/2 cup chopped carrots, 1/2 cup chopped celery, cook a few minutes. Add cubed raw potatoes (1 per person). Cook until all vegetables are tender. Thicken soup with 1 cup milk mixed with 2 T. flour, pour in slowly so soup thickens and flour cooks .Maybe 10 minutes. Now some cooks would blend all this, but we don't.. Add pepper and salt (unless the bacon was quite salty). It''s really filling and tastes great. I particularly like to eat the vegetables rather than a blended mixture. Looks nicer too. Very economical dish, costs pennies/serving, is filling and healthy.

I make mine just about exactly like this. Sometimes I add clams to it, making clam chowder. :)
