Old-Fashioned Applesauce Cake

Any recipe with old-fashioned in the title is good for me and if you’re reading this post, then you probably feel the same way. This Old-Fashioned Applesauce Cake is full of the delicious flavors of apples, raisins and walnuts, making it the perfect treat to serve at the end of a long day.

Applesauce cake became popular during WWI because you could make a moist, flavorful cake with less fat and eggs using the applesauce as a substitute. It seems like moms and grandmas have been making a version of this cake ever since (without the rationing), but it’s not as popular now as it used to be.

I think that ‘s a shame and so I’m happy to be sharing this recipe with you today in hopes that more people will try it and see how easy and delicious applesauce cake can be.

This cake is perfect for serving in the fall when apples and walnuts are in season, but of course it tastes great any time of year and I know you and your family will enjoy this recipe. Happy Baking Friends!
