Christmas Pound Cake
Christmas Pound Cake
Did you know that pound cake originally got its name because it contained a pound each of butter, sugar, eggs and flour without any leavening except air whipped into the batter? This would have made a very large cake. Over the years the recipe has changed, but the name has stayed the same.
This is actually my first time making and eating homemade pound cake and I was really pleased with the result. It seems lighter and fluffier than a store-bought pound cake, but it’s good all the same. I’ve also added chopped walnuts and dates to make it the perfect Christmas recipe to serve at a party or give as a gift. I hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas!
How to Make Christmas Pound Cake:
Mix flour and baking soda. Set aside.
Mix sugar, butter and salt together until light and fluffy.
Add condensed milk and mix until well combined.
Add flour mixture and mix until no flour remains.
Add eggs and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
Fold in Walnuts and Dates. Pour into greased loaf pan.
Bake at 325 for 75-85 minutes or until knife inserted in middle comes out clean.
