Torn Paper Manger Christmas Craft

My kids seriously love crafting. It seems to be written into their DNA. They literally dig through the recycling bin on a daily basis in order to find supplies and quench their crafting desires. I’m not one to do lots of complicated craft projects with them, but I love a good quick and easy craft project that produces adorable results.

This Torn Paper Manger Craft is so easy to do, it’s basically torn paper strips glued together to look like baby Jesus in the manger. This project is so simple and it’s great for little ones who need practice with fine motor skills. What child doesn’t want permission to tear up paper, right?

Also, you can use this project as a tool for teaching your child the true meaning of Christmas and be sure to check out my posts Teaching Your Toddler About Jesus and 10 Ways to Serve with Young Children During the Holidays for more tips and inspiration.

“For unto you is born this day

in the city of David a Savior,

who is Christ the LORD.”

-Luke 2:11

“For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

-Isaiah 9:6

Torn Paper Manger Christmas Craft Tutorial

Supplies

Template
Brown, yellow and white construction paper
Skin colored crayon
Black marker
Glue stick
Scissors

Instructions

First, print out the template and color the circle with the skin colored crayon, then cut out all three pieces.

After that, cut the white construction paper into a square.

Next, use the left-over strip of white construction paper and tear it into short strips.

Then, glue the white strips to the oval shaped template. Once the shape is covered, tear around the edges to create the oval shape again.

Next, draw a face with the black marker onto the skin colored circle piece and glue it onto the oval body.

Then take the rounded square shape from the printed template and trace it onto the brown construction paper. Don’t use scissors, instead tear around the edges. It’s okay if it’s a little sloppy and off the lines. Then, glue the torn brown paper to the white square paper.

Next tear around the edges of the yellow construction paper and then tear the paper in half. Then tear each half into narrow strips for the hay.

After that, glue the yellow strips to the brown paper.

Finally, glue the baby Jesus to the center of the manger and you’re done!
