May Garden Journal

Sorry I haven’t been posting lately, but life has been busy adjusting to two little ones! Anyway, I haven’t mentioned much about the garden in awhile so I figured it was time for an update. We got everything planted this past weekend so now we just need to water, pull weeds and lay mulch.

Mike built this raised bed where we planted strawberries and blueberries. We also planted some raspberry canes down by the creek, but they just look like sticks at the moment so I didn’t take a picture.
Here are our potatoes and onions. We planted a lot this year so hopefully we will get a good crop of both! I planted some zinnias in where the onions didn’t come up so I can have fresh cut flowers all season long. 🙂
Here’s our tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes and squash.
We bought plants this year instead of starting seeds.
And here is our new trellis where we planted peas, beans and cucumbers. I’ve never actually trellised cucumbers or beans before so it should be more efficient and look a lot cleaner than random vines growing all over the place.

We also planted some basil and sunflowers along the back of the fence. I’ve never grown sunflowers before and I’m excited to see how they do! In the past, when I’ve tried to grow flowers from seed they usually die on me, but the sunflowers are doing well so far.

How is your garden coming along? Are you growing anything new this year? I’d love to know!

I have a little garden this year with a few tomatoes, peppers and herbs. I would love a garden the size of yours!

My hubby built me a lovely garden box with a sort of 'hip' all the way around where I put strawberry plants. In the box itself I have lettuce, carrots, beets, beans and some herbs. Peas are across the yard. I'm going to try growing some potatoes in a bag ; )
