I’m sorry to say that my garden isn’t doing well at all. It’s crazy how much farther along everything was last year at this time. Due to bad soil, lack of time because of our move and the wet Spring we’ve had things just aren’t growing like they should.

I finally had a chance to lay down some mulch this week which will help to keep the weeds down. For some reason my pictures wouldn’t load like they were supposed to so I can’t show you a close up of everything, but here’s a shot of one of my tomato plants.

I actually pulled some of my original plants up and replanted new ones because the first set looked so pitiful. Originally there was an above ground pool where our new garden is so the soil is rocky/sandy and we didn’t have time to do anything with it this year.

The chickens however, are enjoying their new home with lots of green grass and bugs to eat. We plan on expanding our flock and letting them free range some once we are moved in and things are settled down a little bit more.

Hopefully better than mine!

Our garden is doing well... But we have been extremely wet. It's starting to hurt more than help... Oh except for the weeds which are doing fabulous!

We have the same problem here in Georgia very wet spring, planted my potatoes in the mud. They came up couldn't believe it, I have mulched every where and the weeds are winning. Your garden looks great next to my billion weeds I keep cutting them and pulling. Ellen from Georgia

Hi, Missy: I hadn't looked at your blog in a while - wow! It is great! I'm disappointed about gardening this year, too - because of knee surgery, I didn't get anything in in time for our AZ first growing season and wouldn't you know it? It has been a cool and somewhat wet late winter/spring and everyone's gardens here are doing better than I've ever seen them! I'm so bummed but am buying off other people. We have more than one season here, though, so come Aug - Oct, I will plant a few things. I must say in some ways you seem to live the life I'd like to if it weren't for my health and the fact that your uncle isn't into gardening, chickens and all. I do have a different theology - as you know, we are very dedicated to the Lord, but we are egalitarian in our marriage - still, I am so happy for you that you are living this kind of life and that you are blogging and helping others. Have you thought of homeschooling the boys? I loved homeschooling. I have just finished up with Katie, Kaleb's daughter. She graduated Sunday. And of course, I homeschooled both Kaleb and Samuel. I don't believe everyone is supposed to homeschool, but it seems like it might "fit" you. I am already planning to try some of your freezer meals. I have gotten into this, too - only usually I just cook double when I do cook and freeze the other because so many OAMC programs are too much work in one day. But your 1-2 hour ones looks great! I've considered homeschooling, but haven't decided for sure yet. I hope you enjoy the freezer meals! I love freezer cooking.
