Gardening Journal – April

I feel like I do these posts about once a week. I can’t believe a whole month goes by in between them. Anyway, I finally have some pictures of things coming up out in the garden. So exciting!

Here are some of our strawberries that are already starting to bloom:

I picked the blooms off last year to encourage plant growth so hopefully we will get plenty of berries this season.

Here’s a picture of our garden area. Still pretty dead looking, but we do have some cold weather crops coming up on the far right. We also planted corn, okra and beans on the left side this past weekend. It’s suppose to get down in the low thirties in a few days, but nothing has sprouted yet so they should be fine.

Here’s one of our potatoes. These took 3+ weeks to come up and I had basically given up hope, but here they are:

Here are some of our peas. We had to replant about half of these because they didn’t come up.

Here are our onions. I’ve never grown onions before so I’m pretty exited about them!

Here are some of our bell peppers. All of my plants that are still indoors still look pretty good (some are getting kinda leggy). I’ve been trying to put them out in the warm weather, but it’s going to turn cold soon so they’ll have to stay inside. I am so ready to plant them outdoors, but I’ll probably have to wait until the beginning of May.

Next month we should have lots more stuff coming up in the garden and all of my plants should be transplanted. I am so ready!

What’s going on in your garden?

My garden is still covered in snow. I can't even think about planting much until the last week of May or the first weeks of June. I can't wait to see my strawberry plants and chives turning green. Should be within a couple weeks (if it ever stops snowing in Northern Wisconsin!)

I can't wait to eat our first strawberries! We need to cover them so the birds don't get to them first!

How exciting!!! We are growing onions this year too and I hope they do ok. Several of our plants are still indoors too but we have planted a lot outside already that are cold weather-tolerant. Your peppers look great!!

Thanks! I can't wait to get all of our plants outside and enjoy the first fruits of the season in a few weeks!

I know how you feel about getting the plants outside. We keep having these cold snaps in Oklahoma and I am so ready to get these tomato plants out of the house. They are getting pretty spindly.
