5 Natural Solutions for Better Sleep

If you find it hard to fall asleep at night you may want to try these 5 Natural Solutions for Better Sleep!

 

Getting adequate sleep has been linked to numerous health benefits including better mood, lower BMI, increased energy and lower disease risks. However, being able to lay down and instantly forget the stressors of the day isn’t always possible. Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to fall asleep when you need to, but knowing how to unwind naturally goes a long way in preparing your body to sleep easier. It’s amazing how much easier I fall asleep just by taking the time to prepare for it naturally. So here are 5 Natural Solutions for Better Sleep.

 

 Exercise

When I was pregnant I exercised every night after I put my oldest down and I truly believe that is why I slept great all 40 weeks. Exercise not only makes your body tired, but also helps you de-stress and relax.

 

Turn off Screens

Making the hour before you go to bed screen-free is a great way to fall asleep faster. Electronic lights stimulate the brain and keep us up way later than we intend. I try to turn my phone and computer off around 9 pm and read a book until I get tired. Normally, it doesn’t take long for me to feel pretty drowsy which in turn leads to better sleep.

 

 Turn off Lights

The darker your room is the more melatonin (a natural sleep hormone) your body will make. I’ve heard that even turning on the light to use the bathroom will cause melatonin levels to instantly plummet! So close your shades, turn off all lights and even turn alarm clock screens away from you when you go to sleep.

 

Clear Your Mind

Take the time each night to unload the day by praying, journaling, talking with your spouse or writing a to-do list for the next day. Whatever you need to do to clear your mind should work wonders in being able to fall asleep faster.

 

Use a Natural Sleep Aid
